Ending Newborn Deaths: Ensuring Every baby Survives 20-04-2015
Remarkable progress has been made in the fight to end child mortality since 1990. In spite of these improvements, Save the Children (2014) reveals that further action is desperately needed as 18,000 children under five die every day, most from preventable causes.
In particular, this brief highlights the danger to newborns in two crucial periods: during labour and within the first 28 days of being born. Increased interventions are needed which improve access to skilled care for mothers during their pregnancy and labour. In addition, further support is needed to ensure that universal health care reaches all communities.
